Display Attribute Hierarchies

Attributes exist within the context of entities. Hence their precise semantics are controlled by the scope of the entity. Notwithstanding, to achieve some level of data semantics standardization, all attributes should inherit their "base" semantics from a Data Element. Following from that, an attribute is the semantic base for columns in tables of one or more Implemented Database Schemas. These, in turn are the basis for the semantics of DBMS columns in one or more DBMS Schemas.  The process to accomplish the display of cascading semantics starting with Attributes, their inherited Data Element semantics, and then their inheritable through the Implemented Database and Operational Database Modes includes:

  • Start the Specified Data Model Metabase System Module
  • Select the DBMS
  • Enter User Name and Password
  • Select the Menu Item, Attributes, then the subordinate menu item, Data Hierarchies
  • Select a specific Attribute to see what semantics it inherits and what columns and DBMS columns inherit the attribute's semantics
