DBMS Column Hierarchies

DBMS Columns exist within the context of DBMS Tables. Hence their precise semantics are controlled by the scope of the DBMS Tables. Notwithstanding, to achieve some level of data semantics standardization, all Columns should inherit their "base" semantics from an Attribute. Following from that, a Column is the semantic base for DBMS columns in one or more DBMS Schemas.  The process to accomplish the display of cascading semantics starting with Columns, their inherited Attribute semantics, and then their inheritable through the Operational Database Modes includes:

  • Start the Operational Data Model Metabase System Module
  • Select the DBMS
  • Enter User Name and Password
  • Select the Menu Item, DBMS Columns, then the subordinate menu item, Data Hierarchies
  • Select a specific DBMS Column to see what semantics it inherits from Columns, which, in turn inherits semantics from Attributes, Data Elements, and above.
