Create Enterprise Data Elements

A data element is a context independent business fact semantic template. By context independent it means that the data element is not encapsulated within an entity, table, or DBMS table. By semantic template, it means that the data element's semantics are inherited by associated  attributes or columns. Because of this definition data elements exist at a level higher than attributes or columns. The process to accomplish data element creation include:

• Start the Data Element Metabase System Module
• Select the DBMS
• Enter User Name and Password
• Select the Menu Item, Data Elements, then the Data Elements group of subordinate items, and finally the actual data elements process
• Select a Business Domain
• Press the Insert button
• Select the Data Element Concept Structure
• Enter the Common Business Name
• Press the Reset button
• Enter a user set name as appropriate
• Enter a local definition
• Press the AutoDef button to generate the definition
