Create Compound Data Elements

A compound data element a collection of data elements that are brought together to form what would appear to an end user a different data element. Included for example might be the Compound Data Element, PersonFullName that would include the data elements: Title, FirstName, MiddleName, LastName, and NameSuffix. Compound data elements are able to be mapped to View Columns so that the end user can retrieve a PersonFullName. The process to accomplish data element creation include:

  • Start the Data Element Metabase System Module
  • Select the DBMS
  • Enter User Name and Password
  • Select the menu item, Data Elements, then the subordinate menu item Compound Data Elements then the subordinate menu item, Compound Data Elements
  • Press the Insert button
  • Enter the Name and definition for the new Compound Data Element
  • Select the menu item, Data Elements, then the subordinate menu item Compound Data Elements then the subordinate menu item, Assign Compound Data Elements to Data Elements
  • Tag the appropriate Compound Data Element
  • Select the appropriate Business Domain
  • Tag one or more Data Elements
  • Press the Build Button
  • Arrange the correct sequence of the Data Elements within the Compound Data Element via the Up and Down buttons
