Assign Attribute Value Domains

An Attribute, once initially created does not have an assigned value domain. This essentially means that any value would be considered acceptable. To restrict the value set, a Value Domain needs to be assigned. The process to assign Attribute Value Domains includes:

  • Start the Specified Data Model Metabase System Module
  • Select the DBMS
  • Enter User Name and Password
  • Select the Menu Item, Attributes, then the subordinate menu item Maintenance, and the subordinate menu item, Attribute Value Domain
  • Select a Subject
  • Select an Entity
  • Within the Attribute Value Domain hierarchy, select the attribute to which a value domain should be assigned. The currently assigned value domain will be shown at the end of the entry-line. It will most likely be "Unknown."
  • Select the Value Domain Type, Containment
  • Shown will then be all the value domains that can be assigned based on the Attribute's parent data element, data element concept, and its parent Conceptual Value Domain.
  • Select one one of the allowed value domains. If the selected value domain is already assigned to the attribute's parent data element, the "Assign" button will be greyed-out.
  • If assignable, Press the Assign button
