Add Meta Category Values

A Column's basic semantics, that is, those inherited by its parent data element can be enhanced. Here, enhanced semantics means the addition of semantics modifiers that further defines and restricts the meaning of the Column, and that data use modifiers that more precisely enables Column users to understand the purpose and role that Column is to play in the Table.

Once Meta Category Values are selected for assignment and the Build button is pressed, the build process evaluates the suitability of the assignment, and if acceptable, assigns the Meta Category Value to the Column.

When this semantic addition process is complete, the Maintain Column process should again be used to cause an automatic modification of the Column's name and also its definition. The Column's local definition should be examined to see if it needs to be changed as well. The process to accomplish the addition of Meta Category Values includes:

  • Start the Implemented Database Model Metabase System Module
  • Select the DBMS
  • Enter User Name and Password
  • Select the Menu Item, Column, then the subordinate menu item Maintenance, and the subordinate menu item, Column Meta Category Value
  • Select a Schema
  • Select a Table
  • Tag only one Column
  • Select a Meta Category Value Class and type combination
  • Select one or more Meta Category Values
  • Press the Build button
