Create Derived Data Elements

A Derived Data Element a data element whose value is computed from a process performed by across another set of data elements. Once the derivation is completed, it appears to an end user as a different data element. Included for example might be the Derived Data Element, Person Age that would compute a person's age based on the person's birthdate.  The process to accomplish data element creation include:

  • Start the Data Element Metabase System Module
  • Select the DBMS
  • Enter User Name and Password
  • Select the menu item, Data Elements, then the subordinate menu item Derived Data then the subordinate menu item, Derived Data Elements
  • Press the Insert button
  • Enter the Name and definition for the new Derived Data Element. The definition of the Derived Data Element should accurately describe the process through which the value derivation takes place.
  • Select the menu item, Data Elements, then the subordinate menu item Derived Data Elements then the subordinate menu item, Assign Derived Data Elements to Data Elements
  • Tag the appropriate Derived Data Element
  • Select the appropriate Business Domain
  • Tag one or more Data Elements
  • Press the Build Button
