Assign Derived Data Elements to
 View Columns

Views are data-interface specifications between databases and business information systems. A view consists of a relationship between one or more DBMS Column to View Column relationships, View Columns that are the result of a combination of the values from DBMS columns to comprise the value of the View Column, and the specification of the process that accomplishes the transformation.

When View Columns need to be the result of a derived value it must be specified in terms of a Derived Data Element. That is because Data Elements are to be both non-derived and atomic. The process of manufacturing this relationship between a Derived Data Element and a View Column is accomplished by:

  • Start the View Database Model Metabase System Module
  • Select the DBMS
  • Enter User Name and Password
  • Select the Menu Item, View Data Models, then the subordinate item, Assignments and then Assign Derived Data Elements to View Columns
  • Select Derived Data Element
  • Select a View
  • Tag one or more View Columns
  • Press the Build button to create the assignment.
